Hemp is amazingly nutritious as a food and supplement. But did you know that hemp is used to make paper and textiles? And that hemp can be used in more than 25,000 ways? Here are some interesting facts you never knew about hemp:
- According to Healing with Hemp CBD Oil by Earl Mindell, ancient Indian and Chinese cultures used hemp for religious reasons and as health aids.
- Hemp belongs to the same family as cannabis, however, they’re more like distant cousins. Hemp has less than 0.3% THC, whereas cannabis contains higher amounts of THC, which is the famous phytocannabinoid that gets you “high.”
- Hemp seed oil, which is used for many foods like salad dressings, is chock-full of essential fatty acids (EFAs) without CBD and THC.
- During the 18th and 19th centuries, hemp was prominent in Canada as clothing and canvas materials.
- Paper made out of hemp is better than wood paper. According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, you can fully grow hemp in four months; this “can yield four times as much paper as an equal acreage of trees.”
- Growing hemp does not require herbicides.
- Hemp papers used for rolling joints burn uniformly without compromising the flavor of your cannabis strain.
- In 2005, a study published in the Journal of Dermatology Treatment showed that dietary hemp seed oil could help relieve dry skin and itchiness from eczema by ingesting 2 tbsp of the oil daily.
