Did you know that CBD can be used as a post-workout supplement?
Now that the weather is warming up, maybe you’re interested in jogging or golfing again – but unforeseen pain could be stopping you.
We totally understand! It’s not uncommon to feel aches after physical exertion, and sometimes the pain can last for days! However, CBD has been shown to help with athletic recovery by releasing dopamine and analgesic effects. “The use of cannabidiol (CBD) among athletes is becoming extensive and frequent. This could be due to the elimination of CBD from the list of prohibited substances by federations and international institutions of sport,” explains the journal Frontiers in Physiology.
CBD can be taken after a workout or practice to prevent muscle pain and improve mood. Here are some things to know about it for athletic recovery:
- If you experience inflammation, CBD is suitable for offering relief. Scientists hypothesize that it has antioxidant effects that can fight oxidative stress. By lessening oxidative stress in the body, CBD can offer anti-inflammatory effect.
- “CBD intake seems to mediate processes associated with gastrointestinal damage protection, due to inflammation, and promote healing of skeletal injuries,” confirms Frontiers in Physiology.
- Sports Illustrated also goes on to mention that, “Based on research, CBD has been found to help broken bones heal in a short time. This is possible because it combines with protein collagen in the bone to create the foundation for the mineralization of new bone tissues.”
- Fun fact: CBD contains neuroprotective elements! Taking it on a regular basis could encourage your nerve tissues to recover after an injury. In turn, it may promote wound healing and reduce your chances of scarring.
- CBD can be consumed as a sublingual oil, edible, beverage or capsule. You can also rub on a topical, which may quickly provide temporary relief. There are topicals available that combine CBD with other pain-relieving ingredients, too, such as arnica, lavender or herbs.
- FYI: there are topicals that offer ingredients that work similarly to CBD. One example is the 18 Paths Ultra Herbal Pain Rub, which uses palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) to target pain via the endocannabinoid system.
